This project seeks to move the communities of Québec, the people who have chosen them and those who transform them, towards climate action.
Municipalities, citizens, businesses and real estate developers are engaged or are ready to engage in reducing GHG emissions and adapting to climate change. The project explains, equips, and trains agents of change in order to empower them to implement actions which will generate major recurring and sustainable gains, but also address multiple other challenges faced by all communities.
Through the project, Vivre en Ville shares its expertise and the content it has produced with the agents of change, the emphasis being put on how a regenerative urban growth model enables reductions of greenhouse gas emissions, increases our natural and agricultural lands’ value and fosters our adaptation to climate change.
Through this project Vivre en Ville thus offers:
- Carrefour, a web platform gathering all of Vivre en Ville’s tools that are useful to changemakers (publications, articles, websites, videos) – now online
- Municipalités amies du climat 2, a community of practice bringing together five committed communities receiving personalized support on climate action from Vivre en Ville’s team;
- A regional training tour of changemakers, to better understand the issues and obstacles they face, and to transfer knowledge;
- The Rendez-vous Collectivités viables 2023, Vivre en Ville’s flagship annual event, on the theme « Collective challenge, municipal response: together in climate action »
COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE
Thanks to this project, Vivre en Ville facilitated the 2nd cohort of the Municipalités amies du climat community of practice, from 2022 to 2024. The municipalities of Joliette, La Prairie, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Saint-Basile-le-Grand and Sherbrooke, supported by Vivre en Ville, have initiated and are pursuing their commitment to climate action. A series of thematic days enable experience-sharing, collaboration and cross-learning.
